Llanrwst Almshouses museum officer’s fond farewell

MESSAGES of gratitude have been paid to a museum officer who leaves the Conwy Valley for London this week.

Victoria Craig has served as museum development officer at the Almshouses in Llanrwst since 2006.

During her time with the Trust-run museum she has been responsible for many successful exhibitions and events.

“I’ve always worked in education,” said Victoria.

“So my work with the Almshouses has been most enjoyable, engaging with the whole community from young to old with the museum’s exhibitions and events over the years.”

During her time at the museum Victoria has organised many events, including a look back at Dolgarrog factory life, mosaic artwork involving local schoolchildren, World War exhibitions and most recently the hugely popular Almshouses 400th anniversary celebrations.

She added: “I joined the Almshouses as a receptionist so was in at the deep end when they asked me to take on the development officer’s role, but I took to it with relish and have enjoyed my time in Llanrwst.”

Mayor Christine Humphreys said: “Special thanks must go to Victoria, whose brainchild the 400th anniversary celebrations were, and her team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to produce the events.

“Throughout the year the Almshouse museum makes a real contribution to the education of our children, conserves our local heritage for all to see and encourages tourism to our town.

“The 400th celebrations were a real opportunity to showcase their work to us all and they did it with professionalism – and left us wanting more.

“I know the Trust which runs the museum faces an uncertain future and I wish them well in all that faces them this year.

“This little ‘hidden gem’ of a museum makes such a contribution to our community and long may it continue to do so.”

Cllr Pat Rowley added: “Victoria has done an excellent job promoting the museum, and I am sure everyone will join me in giving her replacement Dan Amor a warm welcome.”
