Angela hopes to embark on American adventure

A STUDENT is hoping to embark on a trip of a lifetime to America by becoming the UK’s first Illinois Route 66 Ambassador.

Angela Brooks, 21, from Colwyn Bay hopes to win the competition to enjoy an adventure on Illinois’ famous motorway Route 66.

The winner will fly to Chicago and travel along the iconic motorway that has inspired countless films, songs and literature.

During the journey the finalist will have to submit video snippets and post blogs about their journey.

Angela, who studies journalism at Liverpool’s John Moores University, said she was inspired to apply for the competition after she received an e-mail with the information.

After over 100 people were nominated by their family and friends, Angela found she had made it to the final five.

“I never thought I’d get to this stage. It was amazing. I just stared at the screen for 20 minutes. I rang everyone to say thank you,” said Angela.

“I do journalism in university. I absolutely love writing. When I’m older I want to be the editor of the Times.

“I just love America, I think it will be a brilliant opportunity. I can blog and make videos and relate to people of all ages.”

Now, the dynamic student hopes to impress judges with her personality to win the trip of a lifetime.

She has already submitted a video of herself, filmed in locations around North Wales, and is hoping she can impress the judges enough to take the dream journey.

Route 66 has often been referred to as the Mother Road and offers everything from the high city life of Chicago to the vintage charm of Shea’s Gas Station Museum.

Angela will find out the results on Monday.
