Power cut in Conwy county

TELEVISIONS, kettles, computers and fridge-freezers went off across Conwy county yesterday as a power-cut hit most of the area.

Conwy, Llandudno, Deganwy and Colwyn Bay were just some of the areas hit by the power-cut after a cable was cut.

A spokeswoman for Scottish Power said the power-cut was caused by roadworks.

“It was a cable feeding from Colwyn Bay sub-station which was damaged by someone else working in the area,” she said.

“A call came in at 8.32am in the morning and power was restored at 8.48, so it was back on within 15 minutes. I believe there was a few thousand customers affected. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

John Hughes was eating his cornflakes in Colwyn Bay when the power went off.

“I was eating my breakfast and waiting for the kettle to boil when the TV and everything went off,” he said.

“I was quite annoyed as I was waiting for the latest report on the World Cup and wanted a cuppa before I left for work – annoying!”
