Lorry cab goes up in flames

A LORRY driver had a lucky escape on Monday when a fire engulfed his cab while he was driving.

The driver, working for Robin Jones and Sons haulage contractors of Llandudno Junction, was carrying rubble along the eastbound A55 when the fire took hold in the roof. The cab was destroyed, but the driver managed to steer the lorry into a lay-by just off the turning for Llanddulas and escape.

Police and the fire service were called around 10.40am. A police spokesman said the lay-by was closed while the lorry was taken away. A fire service spokeswoman said the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the beacon on top of the cab.
