Liberals win Ysgol John’s Brights Question Time event

A SCHOOLGIRL who has a passion for politics recently organised a Question Time style event at Ysgol John Bright in Llandudno.

The event was a huge success with all the main political parties represented by their prospective candidates, who will be fighting for the Aberconwy seat in the General Election, thought to be taking place at the beginning of May.

Over 100 year 12 and 13 pupils attended, as did some teachers and senior management.

Organiser Rebecca Ellis, 19, explains why she organised the event. She said: “I’m studying history, religious education and information technology A-Levels but would love to go on and study politics.

“I’m a big supporter of David Cameron, as I think he knows what he’s talking about and would make a great Prime Minister.

“In November I saw David Cameron in person at Llandudno’s Town Hall where he spoke and took questions from the audience.

“I was mightily impressed by him and would love to work with him one day.”

However on the night, Rebecca was to be disappointed as a vote was taken by the pupils and Mike Priestley of the Liberal party took 50% of the overall vote, Ronnie Hughes of Labour came second, Guto Bebb, Conservative, came third, and Phil Edwards, for Plaid Cymru, came forth.

“Mike won I think because he cracked jokes and was really friendly so the kids liked him, but he didn’t change my mind I still voted for Guto!

“Perhaps we will be able to hold another ‘Question Time’ nearer to the election.”

Rebecca and her friends, who are all Conservative supporters have formed a Conservative Future Aberconwy Group aimed at the under 30s. If you are interested in joining email conservativefutureaberconwy@ googlemail.com. Facebook page is Aberconwy Conservative Future.

Cllr Mike Priestley commented on his win: “I really enjoyed the event and would like to thank Rebecca for organising it.

“I would also like to thank the pupils of Ysgol John Bright’s for their enthusiasm.”
