Ten grand for charity

COLEG Llandrillo’s staff and students have raised more than £10,000 over 90 days for Ty Gobaith.

The Rhos-on-Sea college hosted a range of events raising £10,614.54 for the children’s hospice.

The money will go towards the annual cost of three specialist nurses, who provide vital hands-on care for the hospice’s terminally ill children.

The college is just one of 80 companies across North Wales which have helped to raise over £70,000 for the charity’s corporate challenge.

Each business was asked to raise the largest amount possible in three months. Staff and students from all of the college’s campuses were involved in over 40 different fundraising challenges.

These included hair and beauty staff and students raising over £1,000 providing treatments to clients, creative arts students donated work raising nearly £800 and IT and communications students raised £250 recycling old mobile phones. Hospitality students cleaned staff’s workstations, telephones and computer keyboards, whilst refectory staff hosted their annual quiz night, which raised £750.

Students from the technology department rolled up their sleeves and washed a number of cars for staff. And engineering tutor David Roberts and his students, agreed to have their hair dyed and styled into wacky creations, which raised £350.
