MORE than £2.3million is to be spent on modernising Bryn y Neuadd Hospital, Llanfairfechan.
The cash, announced today by the Welsh Assembly Government’s health minister Edwina Hart, will be spent on replacing the hospital’s electrical system, most of which is almost 30 years old. It will also be used to install new high efficiency gas boilers.
Work is expected to start in April and be completed by February 2011.
Mrs Hart said: “This new investment will support the future development of the hospital and enable it to increase capacity when required. The new efficient boiler will help to reduce running costs of the hospital in the long-term and help the Health Board to meet Government targets for energy reduction. The new electrical equipment will reduce the risk of an electrical failure.
“This investment is in addition to £2.1million funding announced last year to develop a unit to provide continuing care for people with learning disabilities.
Michael Williams, chair of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, added: “Ysbyty Bryn y Neuadd is a crucial part of mental health care delivery in North Wales and this investment will mean that it can continue to provide services of the highest quality in the future.”
