Hotel raffle raises £30,000 for Llandudno hospice

A WEEKLY raffle at a Llandudno hotel has raised a massive £30,000 for St David’s Hospice.

Hospice volunteers have been setting up shop at the Queen’s Hotel on the promenade, every Friday morning, for almost 10 years.

Margaret Darling, has supported St David’s since the beginning, when she was part of the Craig-y-Don support group during the building stages of the hospice, based on Abbey Road.

She said: “Ten years ago I was active in the support group and we held coffee mornings at the Queen’s Hotel with the room, coffee and biscuits compliments of the management.”

Now, Margaret, who also helps out in the Craig-y-Don shop, and Brenda Williams, a volunteer at the Conwy shop, get to the Queen’s for 8.30am every Friday, raising around £100 a week for the hospice, which provides free end of life care for local adult patients.

The group were awarded the highly commended Wales Volunteer of the Year award in 2008.
