HERITAGE experts have praised a Victorian house which a developer is trying to bulldoze for housing.
Battle lines have been drawn over Plas Dulas in Llanddulas.
Developer Alex Davies believes the site is not worth restoring and wants to build what he says are 29 much needed affordable homes.
Conwy Council planning committee recommended refusal of this planning application on November 11, 2009.
Now, author Mark Baker has delved into the background of Plas Dulas which was reputedly visited by author Evelyn Waugh.
Clwyd and Powys Archaeological Trust has also been impressed by the quality of construction, the architectural design and the remains of a potentially historic garden.
It believes the site is of national importance.
Clwyd West AM Darren Millar and North Wales Regional AM Mark Isherwood, both Conservatives, have been trying to save Plas Dulas.
Mr Isherwood, was copied on an e-mail from Clwyd and Powys Archaeological Trust, strongly recommending that the entire building complex and gardens are considered by Cadw for listing.
He has contacted the Minister for Heritage, Alun Ffred Jones AM, calling on him to give the matter his attention.
Mr Isherwood said: “Clwyd and Powys Archaeological Trust think Mark’s results will make a strong case for listing.
“Fingers crossed that this unique site will be saved for the nation.”
