Will Greenwood mum at Rhos-on-Sea Golf Club
AN international sporting family’s latest success is ready to tee-off at Rhos-on-Sea Golf Club.
Susan Greenwood, mother of former England Rugby Union international Will, has been named ladies’ captain at the club.
Susan, who is married to former England rugby international Dick, is now hoping her family’s legacy can be reflected in her captaincy.
“I’ve been a full member of Rhos-on-Sea Golf Club for three years and a country member since 1990, as I lived in Lancashire,” said Susan.
“I’m very honoured and happy to be ladies’ captain. I want to be involved in helping to run the ladies’ teams and I want to introduce more bridge to Rhos-on-Sea Golf Club.
“It is a lively club with lots of competent golfing ladies.”
Susan, who lives on Marine Drive, also explained that former England ace Will showed prowess on the golf course when he visited with his cousin, Sky Sports presenter Di Stewart.
“We are a sporting family and we have a big family tournament every year in August. We play for the Don Ditcher Cup,” she said.
“It started on my husband’s birthday. When he was small he couldn’t say his name John Richard, so it became Don Ditcher, so it’s just a bit of fun.
“We hold the tournament at Rhos-on-Sea Golf Club and about 20 of us, including my daughter Emma, play.
“We’ve got some good golfers in the family. My niece Di is very good and Will plays off eight, he’s good at all sports whatever he does.
“I play off a 22 handicap, which I’m proud of.
“Will is living in Berkshire and commentates on Sky Sports, writes for the Sunday Telegraph and does corporate work. He came up last year for the School of Hard Knocks TV show and comes up about three times a year. He likes the area.”
Will Greenwood played for the Harlequins, Leicester Tigers and England as well as the British and Irish Lions.
He gained 55 caps with the England squad and was vice-captain and played all but one game in England’s 2003 World Cup triumph.
