Llandudno man drives car around the world

A PENSIONER drove his beloved runaround so far that he’s travelled the equivalent of ten journeys around the world.

George Cameron finally decided to trade in his H-reg Honda after notching up 260,000 miles in exchange for a brand new Skoda Fabia.

George, who is in his 70s and from Llandudno, picked up the car from Slater’s in Abergele where he has had his car regularly serviced by mechanic Ron Worsell, who has looked after the Honda from the beginning.

Colin Knowlson is the managing director of Slater’s and said it was quite a feat that the Honda was still going.

Colin also pointed to the fact George’s previous car, a Triumph 2000, a much older car, had also clocked up a similar mileage.

“It is a credit to his driving skills and the way he services the car,” said Colin.

“Ron has looked after it from the very start.

“I think the Triumph 2000 was a greater achievement. We’ve got examples of cars doing amazing amounts of miles, and it is becoming more common with modern engineering and oils.

“If the car is well serviced and well driven it is becoming more common, but it is still very unusual.”
