A COUNCILLOR is calling for her street to be made a residents’ only parking area because inconsiderate motorists constantly park across her driveway blocking her own car in.
Llandudno town councillor Felicity Elphick who lives in Caroline Road near the town centre says her 70-year-old husband can’t walk far so it is essential that access to the drive is kept clear.
“It’s an absolute nightmare having to put up with this. At the very least it is so discourteous to park across someone’s driveway when you can see a vehicle parked there and you know you are blocking it in.
“Again my drive entrance was blocked at the weekend. Worse – my car was parked in the drive, consequently I could not go to work on Saturday nor leave home for any thing else,” she complained,
Cllr Elphick said she contacted the police but was told there was nothing they could do as the vehicle was parked legally.
“A community police officer came to explain to us that the owner of the car was within their legal rights parking as they had and that unless it was a matter of life and death the car could not be moved.
“She agreed that it was extremely discourteous and selfish but that there was nothing the police could do.”
There isn’t a dropped kerb or white line outside Cllr Elphick’s property but she says that even if there were she has been told this isn’t legally enforceable.
“In my view the law on this needs to be changed but of course that is a national issue and something that can’t be addressed locally.
“Parking close to our home is very important. If anyone else is suffering the same problem can they please let me know?
“I will be asking the planning and transport committee of Llandudno Town Council to ask for Caroline Road residents only parking as this situation is intolerable,” she said.
