TOP British Country music bands have been booked to appear at the Marine Hotel in Old Colwyn.
Country and Western fan and taxi driver Dave Nelson has turned a dream into reality and set up an array of talent to be on show at his new music club.
He has been a fan of the genre since the 1960s and spent 10 years producing and presenting a Country music radio show for Radio 210 in Reading.
There, he played the best in Country music and interviewed many of the leading genre stars, including Johnny Cash, Tammy Wynette and Garth Brooks.
Dave moved to North Wales in the 1990s but missed the live Country scene so has set up the Old Ranch Country Music Club. He is booking some of the most respected bands in the field, some travelling from the far south of England to play.
He is passionate about live music and sees this new venture as a place for fans to enjoy top bands in an intimate local venue on a regular basis.
Dave has a straightforward concept of how the new club is to function: “It’s all about having fun. The best performances I have ever seen are those where the bands are having a great time.
“In that atmosphere, the audience always has a great time too. To generate that kind of atmosphere all the bands have been told to play their own favourite music, not to come along with concerns about ‘should we play this or should we not play that’, but feel free to do their own thing and enjoy playing for people who enjoy good music.”
Fans will be treated to some of the UK’s leading live Country bands with not a backing track in sight – and line dancing will not be allowed!
Already booked to appear are: Roger Humphries and Alive ‘n’ Pickin’ on March 26; Settlers Creek on April 9; Buchanan on April 30; West Virginia on May 14; The Hanks on May 28; and Kay DŠand the Redneck Rodeo Band on June 11.
