BODNANT Garden stayed closed to the public this week despite it being scheduled to open for the spring/summer season on Sunday.
Due to the heavy snowfall last Friday evening, which is still very apparent at Bodnant and has now frozen, management of the National Trust garden has not yet been able to open the estate for the 2010/11 season.
Ann Smith, Bodnant’s administration and visitor services manager said the snow was a health and safety risk to the public.
She said: “Whilst the snow looks very beautiful, it can also be treacherous as it rounds the landscape and obscures steps, corners of borders and once compacted by footfall, becomes extremely slippery.
“It is for this reason and to protect the lawns, that we have regretfully taken the decision to keep the garden closed until the snow has gone.”
