FARMERS’ unions have been busy cooking up a storm as part of National Breakfast Week, helping to promote healthy eating and local produce.
The Farmer's Union Wales held a series of fundraising breakfast meetings last week inviting local dignitaries, including AM Gareth Roberts.
All produce has been donated by local companies including Elison and Metcalf Butchers, Llanrwst who gave the meat and Cae Melwr Farm Shop, Llanrwst who donated eggs and tomatoes.
Money was raised for the Welsh Air Ambulance.
FUW spokesman Dafydd Jones said: “We want to raise awareness of breakfast week as well as local produce and charity. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day.”
Plaid AM for Aberconwy Gareth Jones added: “I was delighted to support this excellent initiative by the Farmers Union of Wales to raise money for such a worthy cause.
“The Air Ambulance Service is saving hundreds of lives every year in Wales and provides a valuable lifeline and reassurance – especially in rural areas.
“It was a great pleasure to visit the Roberts family at Dulasau Uchaf, where we all enjoyed a delicious Welsh breakfast of locally-produced food.
“It was also a valuable opportunity to discuss farming issues with Glyn and Eleri Roberts and several other farmers from the neighbourhood who called by.”
Phil Edwards, Plaid's Westminster candidate for the Aberconwy seat, has recently been campaigning on behalf of dairy farmers, and said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Dulasau Uchaf and I congratulate Glyn and Eleri on their success in raising money for the Air Ambulance.
“I was pleased to have an opportunity to listen to some of the concerns voiced by local farmers. I hope to discuss some of these issues with the minister for rural affairs in the near future.”
