A MAN was on Monday banned indefinitely from going within 50 metres of a Llandudno doctors’ surgery after he racially abused an Asian woman GP in a case of road rage.
Matthew Stewart, 39, of Kings Road, Llandudno, was also prohibited by the town’s magistrates from approaching Dr Munnaza Zahid under a restraining order.
He received a two-year community order with a 9pm-7am curfew for three months, a “one-to-one” programme and supervision, and must pay £85 costs.
Stewart had admitted racially aggravated disorderly behaviour at an earlier hearing. He can’t go to the West Shore surgery.
Prosecutor Helena Jackson said the GP had been driving towards the surgery when a Peugeot car driven by Stewart had approached and the horn sounded.
The doctor continued to West Shore surgery where Stewart knocked on her car window after she pulled up and he became abusive.
Defence solicitor Graham Parry said Stewart received income support and carers’ allowance. He was sorry. The defendant claimed he had to brake sharply because of Dr Zahid’s driving and his pregnant girlfriend lunged forward.
He then turned around and followed the doctor’s car.
