THE end of the decade also brought to a close the first 100 years of Penmaenmawr Golf Club.
Now begins a year-long celebration of the club’s illustrious history. Its beginning will be marked by a captain’s drive-in and flag raising ceremony on March 28.
Other events throughout the year include cocktail parties, a Texas scramble and commemorative dinners.
The club’s most successful player to date, Ann Johnson, praised how important the course has been to her career.
The six-time European champion said: “I loved the friendly, warm atmosphere and the feeling of nurture that pervaded.
“As juniors we were given tremendous encouragement and familial pleasure and pride was shown in our successes.”
The club has also welcomed in new captain, past Walker Cup captain Clive Brown.
