Drug carrier’s shame
A DRUGS “carrier” has been given a suspended prison sentence after a judge heard he had no previous convictions and had now changed his life.
Brian Treadwell, defending, said Craig Pattinson, 29, of Gorwel, Llanfairfechan, now had a permanent job as a machine operator and had expressed “remorse, shame and regret”.
There had been “an element of pressure” on him to carry the drugs. He had now given up the use of drugs, said the barrister.
He was jailed for 40 weeks, suspended for two years, after admitting possessing cannabis worth £556, and cocaine with intent to supply – though the judge said he accepted the cocaine, in the drugs being carried by Pattinson, was for personal use.
Pattinson must also carry out 200 hours’ unpaid work.
Judge John Rogers QC said at Caernarfon crown court last Wednesday that he’d been a commercial carrier bringing drugs from Merseyside into North Wales.
He said the reasons why the sentence was suspended was his plea, good character, that the cocaine was for himself, and because his employer was so impressed that his contract had been extended.
Salon raises cash
AN OPEN evening at a hair salon raised over £1,000 to be shared between St David’s and Ty Gobaith Hospices.
The event was held to mark the 10th anniversary of Enigma in Llandudno. There were hairdressing demonstrations and a raffle, and sparkling wine and canapes were served.
“It was a great success and I want to thank everyone who came and all those who helped to make the evening a success,” said salon owner Joanna Ruscoe.
