Visitors get a glimpse of Assembly building at Llandudno Junction

MORE than 350 visitors attended an open day held by the Welsh Assembly Government and Pochin Construction on the site of the new WAG office in Llandudno Junction last weekend.

The open day offered visitors an opportunity to see how the building will look when completed, and see it as it is presently.

Visitors could also follow the journey of Welsh slate from the mountain to the building’s walls as part of a display by Pwllheli company Cerrig.

Entertainment was provided by Llandudno Junction drama group Teenz and Kids who are sponsored by Pochin Construction.

There was also an opportunity to take part in charcoal stencilling with artist Sally Matthews, who has been chosen to provide artwork for the new building.

First minister Rhodri Morgan said: “I am pleased so many people took the opportunity to come to the site. The new office is an exciting development for North Wales and the Assembly Government and will be of benefit to both.”

Managing director of Pochin Jon Pochin said: “Engaging with the community surrounding the site is of upmost importance to Pochin.

“We are committed to One Wales by investing in local charities and education, hence our support of Teenz and Kids and their involvement at the open day.

“We will continue to build on the success of this event and interact with the community.”

The WAG’s visitor centre in Llandudno Junction is open on weekdays between 10am- 4pm. Visitors can still view the animation, model and displays and ask questions about the new office.

Construction of the new office, which will be the largest WAG base outside Cardiff, is due to be completed in Spring 2010, with staff starting to move in during the summer.

The £20m contract for the new office was awarded to Pochin Construction in October 2008 and work is on schedule. A total of £12m has been spent on construction so far, with £8m committed locally.
