New homeowner finds ‘WWII grenade’ in shed
A SUSPECTED World War II grenade was removed by the bomb squad from a garden shed last week.
The Army bomb disposal squad from Chester was called to remove it after police cordoned off the shed in Peniel Terrace, Llan Ffestiniog last Saturday.
Marcus Williams (pictured), who owns the house and shed, discovered the device.
He said: “I bought the house two weeks ago. It has a barn type shed at the back, with a soil floor. I was stripping the house and putting old carpets in the shed. I noticed a grenade half buried in the soil, sideways on. I knew what it was straight away.
“I didn’t touch it and phoned the police. They came and it was four hours before the bomb disposal squad came. They took it away.”
Mr Williams, 48, who is a Trawsfynydd Power Station training and development officer, believes the repossession company he bought the house from had cleared furniture from the shed and the grenade may have been uncovered then.
A family had previously lived there for two or three years.
