Fill these holes before somebody gets hurt

Llanrwst car park a hazard

PARKING in Llanrwst has never been easy but those who do decide to use the pay and display car park on Watling Street are being blighted by pot holes.

Despite complaints to the council two years ago, the Llanrwst car park is still plagued with huge gaping holes.

According to one local resident, the pay and display car park, which is located in the centre of the bustling market town, is hardly used by anyone because it is pitted with so many deep, dangerous pot holes.

Local builder and resident John Court said he couldn’t believe the car park was still in the same state as two years ago, after his original complaint about the holes.

“What’s the point in complaining again when nothing gets done,” he said.

“I brought this problem to everyone's attention two years ago and yet nothing has been done to fill in these dangerous pot holes, they have just been left to deteriorate. Its a disgrace.

“Residents in Llanrwst feel second rate to people living on the coast, we feel as if they are doing their level best to ruin Llanrwst what with the constant road works and all the flood work going on.

“Anyone stopping off to shop in Llanrwst at the car park or at Gwydir’s free car park over the bridge is put off because of the holes, it just looks like a piece of waste land- even the parking lines have faded.

“I would like to see the council fill in the holes before someone hurts themselves.”

Town mayor Pat Rowley agreed saying: “The car park definitely needs improving, sooner rather than later. Parents and children use the car park for the swimming pool, school children cut across it and old age pensioners use it twice a week when they go for their lunch in town. If someone was to fall because of these holes it could cause serious injury.

“I was under the impression that the council were going to repair the pot holes and re-paint the white lines.

“The amount of holes and their deterioration makes them dangerous and something must be done, how can they expect people to pay for parking when the place isn’t up to standard.”

A Conwy Council spokesperson said: “A comprehensive survey of car parks was carried out in February. A further inspection was carried out last week and a number of pot holes were found in Watling Street so arrangements have been made for repairs.”
