POLICE chief Richard Brunstrom has announced he is quitting in July.
The chief constable told the police authority he was “off for an easier life” as he showed them a picture of a storm-hit ship being struck by a violent wave.
A keen sailor, the £120,000-a-year officer had previously said he wanted to buy a boat and sail with his wife.
Mr Brunstrom, 54, said: “This has been a very rewarding job, but a tough job and now it’s time I left.
“I’ve handed in my notice of retirement which will come into effect from July 30 after eight-and-a-half years as chief constable and nine-and-a-half as a senior police officer.”
He added: “I am as proud as I possibly could be of what we have achieved. I’ve moved right to the top of the police service after 30 years, it’s time someone else had a chance.”
Authority chairman Ian Roberts paid tribute to his commitment to making North Wales a better and safer place.
