RSPB Wales is asking householders to feed garden birds as the prolonged cold weather means many are suffering.
A spokesman warned many birds are desperate for water as well as food.
He said: “When the weather’s like this it tends to be harder to find food. If people put out meal worms, fat balls, even fruit cake it would be a huge help.
“Water is also a must. It freezes but if you take the top layer off it should be all right.
“But I beg people not to put salt in the water as that would be very harmful. A variety of things could be good. Nuts, bits of apple, muesli and currants are all ideal.”
