Bodelwyddan woman to become North Wales Fire Service’s deputy chief officer

A BODELWYDDAN woman will be the first female to take up a key position on a Welsh fire service.

Dawn Docx, currently working as North Wales Fire Service’s assistant chief officer, will take up the post of deputy chief officer later this month – the first time a woman has been given the job in any of the three Welsh fire services.

“I am looking forward to continuing to work with the excellent team of staff here at North Wales Fire Service to make the region a safer place to live, work and travel within,” she said.

“Our role is to prevent, protect and respond and within my new role I will strive to make sure we do this as effectively as possible.”

Mrs Docx, who moved to North Wales in 2006 and has been learning Welsh since her arrival, said she has already seen great changes within the service and that she would continue working alongside Simon Smith, the chief fire officer, to ensure a high standard of safety across the region.

Cllr Trevor Roberts, chairman of North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority said: “I am delighted to congratulate Dawn on her promotion and for the contribution she has made to the management team so far.”
