Anger at St Asaph well vandals

RESIDENTS of St Asaph were dismayed after a wishing well operated by one of the city’s charity organisations was destroyed.

Vandals smashed the donation site, which is situated at the Tweedmill outlet and operated by the St Asaph Rotary Club, in the early hours of December 12, leaving substantial damage to the well and taking cash from inside it.

“The first thing I knew about it was when I got a call from a lady at Tweedmill telling me what had happened, and it seems we’ve had our first major incident with this well in the five years it’s been there,” said club secretary John Carson.

“We’ve had a few minor problems before, but nothing like this. Everyone at the club is horrified by this despicable act. It’s a sad reflection on our society.”

Mr Carson said that although the well had been emptied two days previously and any takings would have been minimal, he was saddened that the act appeared to be targeted at money raised for charity.

North Wales Police confirmed they were investigating the incident and appealed for any witnesses to come forward on 0845 6071001 (Welsh line), 1002 (English) or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
