Eirlys' Llandudno boxing day dip for charity

AN ABERGELE lady will be ditching the traditional Boxing Day routine in favour of splashing out on two charities later this month.

Eirlys Roberts, of Llys-y-Môr, will be heading to Llandudno on December 26 for a dip in the sea to raise cash for the special care unit at Glan Clwyd Hospital and the Alzheimer’s Society.

“One of my little ones was taken care of in a special care unit just after he was born and one of my aunts suffered from Alzheimer’s, so both are causes that are very close to my heart,” said 45-year-old Eirlys.

“The water’s absolutely freezing. I know lots of my friends and family say I’m mad for doing it, but then they go ahead and sponsor me anyway.”

Eirlys will join other swimmers from across North Wales near the St George’s Hotel, who will be raising money for a range of charities.

“We’ve had quite a lot of enquiries so far for this year’s event, so we’re hoping it’s going to be quite a big one,” said Eurig Jones, secretary of the Lions Club.

To take part, visit the Lions Club shop on Madoc Street in Llandudno, or contact them on 0845 8339614. To sponsor Eirlys’s swim contact 01745 839059.
