Betws-y-Coed scout gets full suite of badges

A YOUNG cub scout has been awarded one of the highest accolades possible after achieving all his challenge badges.

Joshua Bradnam-Smith from Betws-y-Coed was delighted to be awarded his Chief Scout’s Silver Award recently at a special ceremony on December 8.

He is a member of the First Glan Conwy Cub Pack, run by Akela Cliff March.

Joshua 11, has been a cub for thee years and achieved the much sought-after award at his last ever cub meeting before moving up to join the scouts.

The Chief Scout Silver Award is the highest award given in the cubs and is part of a series including Beavers’ Bronze Award, Cubs’ Silver and Scouts’ Gold Award. To achieve it, Joshua worked towards a number of challenge badges, including Outdoor Challenge, which involved camping and other outdoor skills, Creative Challenge when he made a 4in high model of a Roman soldier, Caring Challenge after looking after his goldfish, Fitness Challenge where Joshua learnt two new sports and the Personal Challenge, where he had to work at something over a long period of time. Joshua chose swimming as he attends Llandudno swimming club.

Joshua was awarded his silver award badge by Assistant Area Commissioner Rose Roberts at the awards ceremony.

In true cub scout fashion Joshua will now be starting at the Rhos-on-Sea Scouts in January and is hoping to work towards his Gold Award while there.
