Gold awards for guides

RANGER guides from Ysgol y Gogarth in Llandudno are off to Buckingham Palace to receive coveted Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award certificates from Prince Edward.

Six of them – Claire Blackmore, Natasha Lea, Heather Osborne, Samantha Perkins, Tammie Roberts and Emma Samuel – were presented with their brooches by Stephanie Price, the award scheme’s director in Wales.

A seventh guide, Gemma Rawlinson, received her brooch last year but will go to the palace with her friends on November 6 to receive her certificate.

Ranger group leader Debbie Roberts said the girls’ achievement is even more remarkable because they have overcome disabilities to gain their awards.
