Betws-y-Coed student goes for TV gastronomic glory

Llyr Serw ap Glyn

LAW student Llyr Serw ap Glyn is hoping for gastronomic glory in Spain after making it through to the final 12 in a culinary TV competition.

A new series of TV chef Dudley Newbery’s show Casa Dudley starts on S4C on Wednesday, October 29, at 8.25pm.

It is fronted by the resident chef himself and new co-presenter Emma Walford, a former member of girl band Eden.

Llyr 20, of Betws-y-Coed, will be among 12 amateur chefs from Wales battling to be one of eight going through to the next round at Dudley’s mobile cookery school, which this year is based in Ronda Valley in Spain.

Llyr, who has worked as a part time butcher as well as living on his family’s farm, is passionate about cookery and said he is inspired by other television chefs.

“My favourite dish is chicken Caesar salad and I really admire Gordon Ramsay for his discipline and Jamie Oliver for his dedication to food and his use of the best possible ingredients. My dream is to open my own restaurant,” he said.

Each week the contestants will be faced with a culinary challenge and the person who fails the test will be sent back home to Wales.

The eventual winner will win a week’s stay with tuition at Raymond Blanc’s famous restaurant, hotel and cookery school Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons.
