FARMERS unions in North Wales have welcomed Robert Wiseman Dairies' decision to increase milk prices by 1p per litre from November.
Mansel Raymond, NFU Cymru Milk Board chairman, praised the companies that had increased the farm gate price, but issued a warning that greater efforts were essential to maintain secure supplies.
“Farmers have been calling for price increases to cover costs and allow for reinvestment for months and we are finally starting to get a response,” he said.
“Recent announcements have been encouraging, signals that the industry is moving in the right direction – away from the commodity pricing that was so much the scourge of the industry in the past and towards much more structured, collaborative supply chain.”
Swimmers dive in
SKILLED swimmers from Abergele showed off their talent earlier this month when they joined their counterparts from across Conwy for a contest in Llandudno.
The Supershrimp Meet held on October 4 at the town’s new swimming pool saw some of Abergele Swimming Club’s younger stars shine, including Ceri Williams, who gained her first gold medal in the 50 metres freestyle contest.
