AN emergency services charity cricket match between the police and fire service helped raise over £1,000 for local children’s hospice.
All the proceeds raised following the charity cricket match were presented to staff at T Gobaith children’s hospice.
Staff from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service took on staff from North Wales Police for a 20/20 friendly match back in July.
A cheque for £1,381.94 was presented to staff at T Gobaith as the money raised was matched by Barclays Bank.
The teams had battled it out on the cricket field with North Wales Police winning the toss and electing to bat first, scoring an excellent 186 in 20 overs while North Wales Fire and Rescue Service managed a total of 95 all out in reply.
Deputy chief fire officer Colin Hanks said: “We’re grateful to Colwyn Bay Cricket Club for letting us play at their venue and to Barclays for their support through their employee volunteering pound-for-pound scheme.
“There was a great atmosphere on the evening of the match and although we were soundly beaten we are already planning to come back in style next year.
“We were delighted to be able to go along to T Gobaith to present the cheque and are grateful to them for giving us an insight into the work they do at the hospice which really drove home to me how valuable a facility it really is to the people of North Wales.”
