Sorry to see service go

POSTMISTRESS Mavis Ledsham, 69, of Llansannan post office, above, will be very sorry to see the service go from the village.

“I’m disappointed,” she said. “It is a crying shame that post offices are being closed in so many villages. It does mean I will be out of a job. Although I am a pensioner, I love coming here three days a week.

“Losing the post office will be terrible for the village. The people here are gutted, especially the older people who can’t travel very far. The buses to other post offices are few and far between.”

There was a mixture of relief and disappointment in Betws-yn-Rhos, inset, that the post office will remain open but for reduced hours.

“I’m saddened that the hours are being reduced, but pleased it’s remaining open, and may offer additional services like road tax. The post office and store is the hub of village life and offers an important service,” said local councillor Ena Wynne.

Postmistress Menna Jones is retiring shortly and the business is being taken over by Paul and Haf Deane.

“They’re a young couple from the village who are very enthusiastic and I’m pleased for them that the post office is staying in the shop. We don’t know yet what hours it will be opening as the Post Office says that will be decided at a later date,” she said.
