Chance for old friends to catch up

FORMER pupils of a Colwyn Bay secondary school will reunite to dance the night away to the hits of the 1990s.

Eirias High School’s class of 1998 is holding a reunion at Colwyn Bay Rugby Club in Rhos-on-Sea this weekend for those who left the sixth form 10 years ago.

The event is also being organised for those who completed their GCSEs in 1996 and organisers are already excited about the prospect of meeting old friends and dancing to the likes of the Spice Girls, Steps and The Verve.

The event is a ticket-only gig with all funds raised after covering the cost being donated to the T Gobaith children’s hospice in the Conwy Valley.

Lyna Tan, 28, is now working as a litigation solicitor in Knowsley Metropolitan Council and was looking forward to the event. Lyna is organising the event together with school friend Ceri Ward-Jones, also 28.

“We are expecting approximately about 50 people we’ve got confirmed so far,” she said.

“The majority of people have been contacted through accessing Facebook but also just on the grapevine and spreading the word.

“We’ve got a DJ, a raffle and questions from trivia – we’ve e-mailed some of our old teachers to see if they’ve any questions for the quiz. And the DJ we’ve asked to play music from 1996, 97 and 98.

“So it is a big opportunity for old friends to catch up, I find it difficult to stay in touch with friends. I’m sure people will have changed, I’ve heard a lot of people have done really well and I’m sure a lot of people have changed for the better.”

The class of 98 school reunion takes place from 8.45pm until 2am at the Colwyn Bay Rugby Club at Brookfield Drive in Rhos-on-Sea on Saturday, September 27. Tickets are £10.
