A RHOS-ON-SEA muscle man hopes to work his way up the ladder of British strongmen and has vowed to train even harder for next summer after coming third in the northern finals.
Twenty-two stone gravedigger Glyn Richards won the first heat of the competition at Colwyn Bay Carnival earlier this month and travelled to Northwich, Cheshire, last weekend for the finals.
Glyn, 30, came an impressive joint third despite injuring his lower arm and now says he can only improve to further his progress climbing the UK strongman hierarchy.
Working for Conwy County Council, Glyn works digging through the day before hitting Sonny’s Gym on Church Road in Rhos-on-Sea for two hours after work.
Glyn felt he could have won the competition if it had not been for a painful injury to his arm.
“I picked up a forearm injury in the second heat while I was doing a dead lift,” he said.
“I had a good chance of winning and had won two events, but I injured my arm. I had family and friends who came to support me and my trainer Dino.
“But they were completely different events from the competition at Colwyn Bay. There were some other big guys there too.”
But Glyn is even more determined to prove he can come stronger in the competition next year and is also hoping to get sponsorship to help fund his training regime.
“This just gives me incentive to get stronger and faster for next year,” said Glyn.
“I hope to start climbing the ladder and doing other events and I’m looking for a sponsor because the protein and body building supplements get expensive.”
Anyone who would like to sponsor Glyn can contact him at Sonny’s Gym on 01492 545348.
