Conwy's GCSE pass rate better than Welsh average

CONWY’S chief education officer has congratulated the county’s GCSE students for exceeding the Welsh overall pass rate.

Geraint James, along with cabinet member for lifelong learning Wyn Jones, said: "It is very pleasing to note that the overall pass rate of 98.8% for Conwy students for 2008 has maintained the improvement seen last year and continues to exceed the all Wales overall pass rate.

"Conwy students recorded a significant score of 67.6% for the higher grades A*-C, which is an increase of 6.4 percentage points when compared with last year’s results.

"We congratulate those students who have achieved the results they have worked so hard to attain. We thank the teaching staff for providing such valuable professional support to our students."
