Great Taste Awards for Abergele pudding makers

ABERGELE pudding makers are celebrating a sweet victory.

The Pudding Compartment has won two prestigious Great Taste Awards.

Owners Juliet and Steve West have been presented with not one, but two coveted Gold Great Taste Awards for their Zingy Ginger steamed pudding and a sticky toffee pudding.

The Great Taste Awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and often referred to as the Oscars of the food industry.

The judging standards are the most rigorous in the UK. Every entry is blind tasted by teams of experts. By the time it earns gold, it will have been assessed by at least three different teams.

Steve West, managing director of The Pudding Compartment, said: "We are absolutely delighted to receive two awards from the Guild of Fine Food.

"Great Taste Awards recognise the craft and dedication that goes into making food and drink. Our puddings use the best locally sourced ingredients, and are hand-made to the highest of standards. The Awards recognise the passion for excellence which is shared by the whole team here."

Steamed puddings from The Pudding Compartment are now available across the border following a deal to supply Antony Worrall Thompson’s latest culinary outlet.

The celebrity chef sampled its delights at the Mid Wales Mouthful food festival in Builth Wells and the Real Food Festival at Earl’s Court in London, and liked them so much he placed an order for his own newly opened shop in Windsor.

"We’re delighted that our puddings have been recognised by Antony Worrall Thompson," said Mark Ellis, director of the Abergele company.

"He’s a superb chef and we are thrilled to be working with him and his team at the Windsor Larder."
