Over 250 turn out for Llandudno hospice dawn walk

INTREPID supporters of St David's Hospice in Llandudno got up at the crack of dawn on Saturday to take part in a sponsored walk.

Over 250 people took part in the first ever St David’s Hospice Dawn Walk over a nine mile route from Ysgol Aberconwy in Conwy to the hospice in Abbey Road and back.

Fund raiser Beth Bithell said: "We were thrilled so many people were willing to get up so early to support us. For some people it was a really big challenge to walk so far, and others were walking in memory of people they had lost; when they finished it was quite emotional for some."

The walkers went through a series of warm-up exercises at Ysgol Aberconwy before setting off at 4.30am. When they reached the hospice they were given a breakfast of bacon rolls, plus energy boosting chocolate bars before setting off on the return journey.

"We are very grateful to our sponsors, Snowdonia Marquees, Asda, Poynton’s butchers, and Sodexho, whose donations have covered our costs, and we hope to raise at least £10,000 in sponsorship from the walkers," she added.
