A MEETING in Llandudno has kick-started a campaign to save a post office under threat.
Town mayor Billy Evans (pictured) has called for a meeting at 7pm on Monday, August 18 at the Trinity Centre on Trinity Avenue to garner support for the future of the post office at Alexandra Road Stores.
Cllr Evans said: “We have about 1,000 senior citizens in the vicinity of the post office, many living in sheltered accommodation, all of whom will be severely affected if it is forced to close. About 99% of everyone I have spoken to is up in arms about the proposed closure. We need to get as many people together as possible to make an impact and so I am urging Llandudno residents to attend this meeting on Monday.
“The Post Office’s claim that there is another branch a mile away isn’t good enough; that’s a great distance for many senior residents or wheelchair users.”
Gary Burchett, owner of Alexandra Road Stores said: “I welcome the efforts of the community in their bid to save our post office. I will be doing all I can to ensure it remains as the post office. Losing it would make a big difference to us and local residents. We’re not just a post office we’re a community service.”
