Celebrating a splash of colour

GARDENERS in Penmaenmawr, Llandudno and Ysbyty Ifan celebrated success at the Wales in Bloom awards.

Jack Finch, chair of Llandudno in Bloom, was delighted that the town came first in the small town category.

“I’m exceptionally pleased,” said Jack. “Conwy Council has worked alongside hotels, schools and community groups to make gorgeous displays throughout Llandudno. I thank all who contributed, it was a real community effort.”

Llandudno residential homes did well with Queen Elizabeth Court and Maes Berllan scoring top points. Audrey Tiesteel, warden at Maes Berllan, said: “Our residents are very happy to have come second in Wales for their efforts.”

John Good’s work for Penmaenmawr’s environmental group Pen in Bloom has been well-documented, and this year Penmaenmawr Golf Club was awarded a merit for its baskets, tubs and beds.

The club secretary said: “We’re stunned to have done so well, especially as it’s only the second year that we have entered. We’re very pleased to have got this far.”

Green-fingered Ysbyty Ifan residents were lauded also as the rural village came second place in the small villages category.
