Here, Ysgol Capel Garmon will close and merge with Bro Gwydir, around four and a half miles away.
Llanrwst mayor Christine Humphreys hopes the council will take into consideration existing traffic problems in the town if they chose to expand Ysgol Bro Gwydir.
She said: “I sympathise with the parents of the children in Capel Garmon as we all know of the advantages a small school can bring, and it would be a shame to close any more rural facilities in the area.
“However, if the merger does go ahead I hope Conwy will take into consideration the parking facilities at Bro Gwydir. We already have traffic problems in the town which need to be addressed.”
Cllr Pat Rowley added: “I do feel for the small schools in this consultation, as I do not like to see them closing. They are the hub of their community.
“They should do all they can to keep all schools open as it is a very long way to expect the youngsters to travel.”
Speaking on behalf of the governors of Ysgol Capel Garmon, headteacher Mrs Edwards said a meeting would take place with parents to discuss the school’s future.
“The school governors met on Monday evening to discuss the modernisation plan regarding Ysgol Capel Garmon and are going to have another meeting with parents on Thursday night to give information about the strategy and collect their views and opinions about what the local authority is proposing,” she said.
Ysgol Capel Garmon currently has 23 full-time pupils and four part-time.
