Here the plan is to close Ysgol Llangwm and merge it with Ysgol Cerrigydrudion on the latter’s site.
Cerrig postmaster Paul Mills said the amalgamation of the schools would not make much difference to his business.
“We have every sympathy with the parents of Llangwm, but their village doesn’t have a shop any more so we already get their business here. I can’t see it making a great deal of difference in that respect,” he said.
“The parents of these children will have to travel a few miles further to school though, which isn’t convenient for them.” Eryl Roberts, a parent at Ysgol Llangwm, is disappointed by the preferred option to close the school.
He said: “The school is the last thing we have left in the village and we don’t want to lose it. This would be a huge blow. We know every pupil and every parent at that school, it’s the place the community comes together and is vital for the village.
“Many of the pupils won’t go to Cerrigydrudion, they’ll go over to Gwynedd instead, so Conwy will lose out on the money. We appreciate changes are needed but believe federalisation (option two) is the way forward. We’ll fight this proposal.”
