Record A-level results for Ysgol John Bright

RECORD results were recorded at Ysgol John Bright where head teacher Irene Perry was thriled with the hard work put in by students.

"The results are generally excellent and some are superb. I'm also delighted for the students who have been successful in achieving key skills and vocational qualifications," she commented.

One of the outstanding success stories is Debra Finch, 18, from CraigyDon, whose As in English Literature, History, and Music have secured a coveted place at Cambridge University.where she will study English at Corpus Christi College.

"I needed to get three As so I had to work really hard, but it's worth it.I'm really excited," she said.

Her friend Laura Whitworth, 18, also from CraigyDon, would like to become an interpreter, and she achieved Bs in French and Italian and a D in European studies which mean she is off to Nottingham Trent University.

"In my third year I'll spend six months in France and six months in Italy to improve my language skills which I'm really looking forward to," she smiled.

Richard O'Mahony, 18, from Llandudno, got As in economics, history, and maths and is going to the University of Manchester to study economics.

"I'd quite like to be an economist or an investment banker," he said.

While Simon Williams, from Penrhyn Bay already has a career lined up.

He is being sponsored by building firm Bovis to study quantity surveying and commercial management at Loughborough University after gaining an A in law and Bs in double business studies.

"I thought it would be good to do something that might have a job at the end of it," he explained.

Another with a career in mind is Claire Adshead, 17, from Llandudno, who is to study events management at university in Cardiff after gaining an A and two Bs.

"As part of my PE A-level I had to look at how events like the Olympics are organised and it really appealed to me," she said.

Ceri Armstrong, also 17, from Penrhyn Bay, is hoping to become a professional actor or singer and will hone her skills on a performing arts degree course at Bath Spa University.

"I love singing and acting and its my dream to work in the theatre," she commented.
