Hughes twins
YSGOL John Bright had one of their best ever years according to headteacher Irene Perry, but this year girls outperformed the boys.
Mrs Perry, who is retiring at Christmas, said: "I can go out on a high as I’m very proud with what my pupils have achieved, they’ve been a super year.
"As for the girls outperforming the boys, I think it’s because they do better in their coursework, girls tend to be more meticulous.
"Overall we’ve done better than the national average, and we’ve done especially well in the science subjects. I’d like to thank all the staff and the pupils for their hard work."
Two star pupils at the school are identical twins Laura and Lisa Hughes, from Deganwy, who between them achieved straight A* and A grades.
Laura, who was born first and regards herself as the boss of the two, said: "We didn’t really study together apart from maybe history, but both of us worked very hard.
"We study differently. I like silence whilst Lisa goes around walking in circles chanting, which can get a bit annoying!"
Lisa added: "We aren’t competitive at all with each other, Laura has had a few more A*s than me but I’m just pleased for her.
"I’d like to eventually work with children or animals, whilst Laura would like to study medicine or do something with geography."
The twins were off to a party to celebrate their results.
